The process of exciting sound in metals with absorption in them of intensity-modulated laser radiation is analyzed. Analytical expressions are given for the amplitudes of thesurface andvolumetric acoustical waves excited by the laser beam. The directivity diagrams of the volumetric waves are identified and their dependence on the beam width is investigated. The acquired results are compared with the experimental data.
