Absorption of radiation in the medium IR range by a periodic-profile metal surface has been investigated. The absorbed energy was measured by means of the opto-acoustic effect. Sharp and narrow absorption peaks were observed at light incidence angles corresponding to resonance excitation of surface electromagnetic waves by scattered radiation. A method of determining surface roughness and angular spectrum of laser radiation is proposed.
