Acoustic nonlinearity in gadolinium molybdate
Acoustic nonlinearity in gadolinium molybdate
L.K. Zarembo, G.P. Morozova, O.Yu. Serdobol'skaya
Measurements have been made on the critical behavior of the second-harmonic amplitude in gadolinium molybdate; they agree with theoretical results obtained from the renormalization-group method. The irregular steps in the amplitude at the second harmonic and the phase steps at the fundamental in the range 80-140°C are due to polarization.

Emission-electronics methods in diagnosing high-temperature transition-metal characteristics
L.Yu. Goloskokova, B.B. Shishkin
A temperature dependence is demonstrated for S, the point-defect thermal entropy of formation, and a method is proposed for determining S(T) by measuring the voltage-current characteristics for recombination-emission currents.
Show AbstractThe static magnetic susceptibility of a polymeric hydrocarbon chain
The static magnetic susceptibility of a polymeric hydrocarbon chain
M.N. Zubtsov, V.V. Ishchenko
A method is given for calculating polymer-chain static magnetic susceptibilities on the basis of simulating the $\pi$-electron density distribution for a hydrocarbo n molecule of any length from the $\pi$-electron distributions for C-C pairs with variable distances between the C ions. The $\sigma$ core susceptibility is incorporated as the sum of the $\sigma$ bonds in the molecule.

Relativistic gravitational theory and spatial topology
A.A. Vlasov
It is shown that the following occur in relativistic gravitational theory: 1) no nontrivial spatial topologies arise in gravitational collapse and 2) there are no models of the universe having nontrivial topology.
Show AbstractThe Stark shift for electrons localized over liquid helium
The Stark shift for electrons localized over liquid helium
O.F. Dorofeev, B.A. Lysov, O.S. Pavlova
The Stark shifts have been calculated for the first three levels for electrons localized over liquid helium in the third order in perturbation theory. The results agree well with measurements for $^4Не$ and $^3Не$.

Dirac optical model calculations on elastic proton scattering at 500 Mev by $^{90}Zr$
Yu.M. Sheinov
Calculations are presented on the differential cross section and polarization characteristics for elastic proton scattering at $Т_p$ = 500 MeV by $^{90}Zr$ in the eikonal approximation within a relativistic optical model.

Argon $3p^53d$ level excitation in the Born distorted-wave approximation
V.V. Balashov, A.N. Grum-Grzhimailo, A.A. Khrapov
Differential and total cross sections have been derived for the excitation of $3p^53d$ ($J = l$) levels in argon by intermediate-energy electrons; electron-photon correlations in emission from these levels via transition to the ground and $Зр^54р$ states are considered.

Induced emission and induced Raman scattering in the IR range on measurement-level excitation in Rb and Cs
T.S. Bimagambetov, V.I. Odintsov
Induced emission and Raman scattering in the IR range have been examined for Rb and Cs vapors on ex9itation under conditions of nonresonant initial-level population.

Effects of $Cr^{3+}$ on magnetization in structure-Y hexaferrites
L.G. Antoshina, E.G. Kondrat'eva
Magnetization measurements have been made on $Ba_2Ni_2Fe_{12-x} Cr_хO_{22}$ (x = 0.0, 1.5, and 3.0). The magnetization is dependent in a complicated fashion on the chromium content. It is suggested that there is noncollinear magnetic ordering in chromium-substituted hexaferrites.

The contributions from short-range order and the size effect to Cu-Zn alloy resistivity
A.A. Katsnel'son, O.V. Kris'ko, V.M. Silonov, T.V. Skorobogatova
A model potential has been used in calculating the residual resistivity for Cu + 15 at.% Zn. The size effect has an anomalous influence on the residual resistivity in Cu-Zn alloys (reduces it).
