Concentration of electrons in a stimulated microwave discharge channel in nitrogen

Concentration of electrons in a stimulated microwave discharge channel in nitrogen

V.V. Zlobin, A.A. Kuzovnikov, V.M. Shibkov

Moscow University Physics Bulletin 1988. 43. N 1. P. 98

The Stark broadening of the $H_\beta$ line of hydrogen was used to determine the concentration of electrons in a stimulated microwave discharge channel in nitrogen as a function of the gas pressure. At atmospheric pressure, the concentration of electrons in the nitrogen channel was found to be $(1\div 2) \cdot 10^{15}$ cm$^{-3}$.

Metallic model in calculations of the Faraday effect in benzene

Metallic model in calculations of the Faraday effect in benzene

M.Yu. Nikolaev, S.S. Semenov

Moscow University Physics Bulletin 1988. 43. N 1. P. 101

The metallic model was used to carry out an exact evaluation of the off-diagonal components of the conductivity and polarizability tensors of the benzene molecule, which are essential for the determination of the Faraday effect.

Phase calibration of the intensity meter in an acoustic interferometer

Phase calibration of the intensity meter in an acoustic interferometer

A.N. Zhukov, A.N. Ivannikov, O.S. Tonakanov

Moscow University Physics Bulletin 1988. 43. N 1. P. 104

A technique for the phase calibration of an intensity meter is discussed. It is shown that the phase uncertainty can be determined from measurements of the distribution of the active and reactive intensities of the acoustic field.

Detection of temperature waves in thermally nonlinear media

Detection of temperature waves in thermally nonlinear media

L.P. Filippov, S.N. Kravchun, V.M. Abdulaeva

Moscow University Physics Bulletin 1988. 43. N 1. P. 108

The harmonic of temperature oscillation due to the propagation of temperature waves in a liquid were observed in the region in which the thermophysical properties of the medium were highly temperature dependent (near the critical point).

Additional electromagnetic resonance in a spherical ferrite sample

Additional electromagnetic resonance in a spherical ferrite sample

S.A. Kirov, N.E. Syr'ev

Moscow University Physics Bulletin 1988. 43. N 1. P. 112

An experimental study was carried out of absorption by a spherical sample of a nickel ferrite single crystal at frequencies in the range 3.4-?.8 GHz. Resonance oscillations due to the uniform electric field predicted by previous theoretical calculations were recorded for the first time.

Cosmology in the Einstein-Cartan theory. 1. Spin dynamics

Cosmology in the Einstein-Cartan theory. 1. Spin dynamics

V.A. Korotkii, Yu.N. Obukhov

Moscow University Physics Bulletin 1987. 42. N 6. P. 1

A study is reported of spin dynamics for a Wayssenhoff liquid in a gravitational field. The following theorem is proved: the nontrivial spin of the Wayssenhoff liquid that satisfies the Frenkel condition is conserved if and only if the liquid moves without acceleration.

Rayleigh-Schroedinger coefficients for singular perturbations of the discrete spectrum

Rayleigh-Schroedinger coefficients for singular perturbations of the discrete spectrum

V.B. Gostev, A.R. Frenkin

Moscow University Physics Bulletin 1987. 42. N 6. P. 7

It is shown that the level shift of the even states in the discrete spectrum, produced by the singular perturbation $\lambda |x|^{-\nu}$, can be described by the standard Rayleigh-Schroedinger formulas only for $0 < \nu < 3/2$.

Exact dynamic theories operating on a given background

Exact dynamic theories operating on a given background

A.N. Petrov, A.D. Popova

Moscow University Physics Bulletin 1987. 42. N 6. P. 13

Exact dynamic theories induced by the subdivision of the variables in the original field theory into a background and a finite dynamic part are constructed. They exhibit a certain nonequivalence under different cases of the subidivied variables. Gauge invariance that follows from displacements in 4-space and dynamic theories in GTR are discussed.

Synchrotron neutrinos at ultrahigh energies

Synchrotron neutrinos at ultrahigh energies

A.V. Borisov, I.A. Kelekhsaeva

Moscow University Physics Bulletin 1987. 42. N 6. P. 20

The probability of emissioт of a pair of muon neutrinos by an electron moving in a constant magnetic field is determined within the framework of the standard theory of electroweak interactions. The dependence of this probability the electron energy and the external magnetic field is investigated.

Intermediate-energy behavior of the helicity of massive Dirac neutrinos when they are scattered by nucleons and its astrophysical aspects

Intermediate-energy behavior of the helicity of massive Dirac neutrinos when they are scattered by nucleons and its astrophysical aspects

B.K. Kerimov, A.M. Mourao, V.P. Tsvetkov

Moscow University Physics Bulletin 1987. 42. N 6. P. 24

The differential and total cross sections for the elastic scattering of massive Dirac neutrinos by nucleons have been evaluated at intermediate energies ($E_{\nu}\ll M_N$), taking into account the neutrino helicity before and after scattering. The behavior of the neutrino helicity under the conditions prevailing in a neutron star has been investigated.
