General theorems on the means of statistical mechanics are investigated in the quasi-classical approximation. Quantum corrections are found for the general virial theorem and the uniform distribution theorem, and also for Gibbs' general theorems on the products of arbitrary physical quantities and the derivatives of the Hamiltonian.
Show AbstractMethods of measuring the light output of plastic scintillators used in an ionization calorimeter as detectors are described, as well as the method of equalizing the light from them at the photomultiplier.
Show AbstractThe influence of a magnetic field on the development of gravitational instability of the boundary between two compressible ideally conducting liquids is examined. A characteristic equation is obtained, whereby the perturbation amplitude increase in the nonstationary problem can be found as a function of the physical parameters of the medium. The magnetic field is shown to be a stabilizing influence, i.e., the disturbances increase much more slowly than in the absence of magnetic field. The results are compared with those of Chandrasekhar [1] and Talwar [2].
Show AbstractThe solutions of Vlasov's equations for the nonlinear effects at the boundary between a vacuum and plasma are treated theoretically for the case of transverse waves.
