It is established that in magnetite, in the vicinity of the spln-reorientational transition, the spin system is unstable not only with respect to strong, but also to weak, external perturbations. Analysis of the results on magnetization, magnetocaloric effect, magnetic permittivity, and specific heat leads to the conclusion that the spin-reorientational transition Ф <111> ↔ Ф <100> in magnetite at low temperatures occurs without spinodal decay.
