To study the relationship between the position of the light intensity maximum in a scattering medium and the ratio between the light absorption and extinction coefficients at various scattering coefficients, an optical-acoustic method is used. Measurements are taken from the time profile of the pressure of an acoustic pulse excited in the medium in a thermal-optical fashion. A method for measuring the light absorption and reduced scattering coefficients of scattering media from the time profile of acoustic signals excited there is suggested.
