Angles of incidence and refraction angles are assumed to be complex when light is reflected from the interface of two absorbing media. The components of complex angles are calculated by Snell's law of refraction. Under this assumption, calculating the reflected and refracted energy fluxes by the Fresnel formulas results in the total energy balance.
