Spectral variations of gamma quanta generated by nuclei of active galaxies and quasars in a cascade model
Spectral variations of gamma quanta generated by nuclei of active galaxies and quasars in a cascade model
I.P. Ivanenko, A.A. Lagutin, S.V. Trifonova
In a cascade model, the observed gamma radiation from the nuclei of active galaxies and quasars is a result of the development of electron-photon cascades, which arise when high energy particles generated in a source travel through the active area of its X-ray radiation. Variations of gamma spectra of the Seyfert galaxy NGC 4151 and quasar 3C 273 caused by variable X-ray radiation from these sources have been computed within the framework of this model. The results are in agreement with the available experimental data.

The effect of electrophysical parameters on spatial resolution of scanning electron microscope operating in the induced current mode
R.S. Gvozdover V.I. Petrov
This paper considers the effect of the surface recombination rate and the depth of source on the spatial resolution of a scanning electron microscope operating in the induced current mode for objects with p-n junctions located perpendicular to the electron beam scanning plane.

Short-wave free-electron cerenkov laser with plasmic and dielectric layers
V.K. Grishin, C.M. Criquet$^*$
The efficiency of a free-electron Cerenkov laser with dielectric and pl.aSmic layers (the axially symmetric configuration) has been examined. The laser is intended for generating millimeter and submillimeter waves. The layer of dense plasma that fills the space between the dielectric and the current tube retains a high level of radiation field in the r

Experimental study of stokes particle slowing-down in a near-bottom suspension flow
Yu.G. Pyrkin, M.A. Silaev
Data on experimental studies of the slowing-down of Stokes particles in a tur· bulent suspension flow are presented. Analysis of the peculiarities of motion of a polydisperse solid phase is offered for different flow velocities. The calculated estimates that take into account the turbulent character of the motion agree fairly well with experimental data

Internal friction in gadolinium-dysprosium alloys in the low-temperature region
A. M. Tishin and 0. A. Shipilov
Young's modulus E and internal friction Q$^{-1}$ of gadolinium-dysprosium alloys have been studied in the 4.2-380 K temperature range. It has been established that an increase in Gd concentration brings about some Battening of the Q$^{-1}$ maximum in the region of ferromagnetic ordering at T$\approx$37 K. A magnetic phase diagram of the system has been plotted.

X-ray diffractometry was used to study the morphotropic phase transition in . alloys of the Er$_{1-x}$Tb$_{x}$Mn$_{2}$ system. It has been established that isomorphic substitution of terbium atoms for erbium atoms transforms an Cl4 structure into an C15 structure by generating two types of defects in the hexagonal closepacked structure.

Molecular-dynamic simulation of two systems comprising 256 Al atoms each with the Heine-Abarenkov-Animalu interatomic interaction potential is reported. In one system, the potential was truncated after the first minim.um, and in tJ1e other, the first three minima were retained. An analysis of Voronoi polyhedrons shows that strengthening of the oscillating long-range interaction potential in molecular-dynamics experiments promotes enhanced amorphization of the system.

Investigation of the paraprocess and the attendant effects
K.P. Belov
The results of the investigation of the paraprocess in various ferro- and ferrimagnetics carried out at the Department of General Physics for Natural Science Faculties and the Laboratory for Problems of Magnetism of Moscow University are summed up. Specific features of the paraprocess and the attendant effects (the magnetocaloric effect, magnetostriction, and magnetoresistance) in ferrimagnetics as compared to ferromagnetics are revealed. The character of the paraprocess and the attendant effects in antiferromagnetics are discussed. Examples are given to illustrate the application of the data obtained for solving a number of problems in the physics of magnetoordered substances.
